School-wide Reading Improvement Model

SRIM entails helping schools develop and apply a systematic, organized plan for effectively assessing and teaching the core early literacy/reading skills outlined in the federal government’s National Reading Panel report.

Implementation of SRIM will allow school staff to:

• Adopt a vision for improving educational outcomes for all students;

• Develop goals for early literacy/reading achievement that are clearly defined, anchored to research, commonly understood, and consistently employed by all teachers of reading;

• Select assessment tools that measure critical literacy skills, provide reliable and valid information about student performance, and inform instruction in meaningful ways;

• Effectively allocate and utilize instructional time within a Three-Tier Intervention Model;

• Employ instructional programs and materials that have documented efficacy, are drawn from research-based findings, align with state standards, and support all learners.
